The Legend of the Queen of Sheba's Shoe

The Queen of Sheba had legendary beauty and wealth. The wise King Solomon was eager to meet her, to test this beautiful woman's beliefs and also to discover for himself the truth about her foot that was said to resemble a webbed goose foot.

Solomon engaged her in debate about their respective religions and during this debate he tricked her into thinking that a stream lay in her path that she must step into. In fact the steam was made of mirror but the Queen lifted her long skirts before stepping into what she thought was the water and in doing so exposed her deformed foot. Some of the legends have her disfigured foot cured by this encounter, in some versions the foot is cloven or that of a bird.
