Being a member of the HatchGroup of Artists has enabled my introduction to making installations.

Artemis Shrine. 2023-2024

Mixed media assemblage, collected pill packets

Artemis - β€˜The Goddess of Hunting, Protector of Wild Animals and the Wilderness’ came back. She was devastated by the pharmaceutical pollution she found in the Soil, in the Rivers and the Seas. Her companions Hedgehog, Seagull, Freshwater Fish and her pet Starling, quickly became became affected, unable to reproduce, or to feed.

β€œNew study reveals pharmaceuticals are polluting England’s National Parks. (14 August 2024)” 

β€œNew research from the University of York and the Rivers Trust has revealed widespread contamination of rivers in the parks, with antidepressants, anticonvulsants, antimicrobials, anti-inflammatory substances, lipid regulators and diabetes treatments being detected.Some rivers in the Peak District and on Exmoor were found to have concentrations of pharmaceuticals higher than seen in major cities such as London”. 

Pharmaceutical Pollution of the English National Parks has been published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

A hollow empty body, twice suspended.

War Baby is my response to this tragedy, repeated endlessly all over the world.
